Coaching is a partnership between a coach and a client. The coach helps the client achieve their personal best and produce the results they want in their personal and/or professional life. Coaching works with the client’s natural bent, rather than forcing an agenda upon them, thus allowing them to learn and develop in a way that’s best for them. Coaching is not mentoring, counseling, therapy, training, consulting, or teaching, even though there can, at times, be some degree of overlap between these disciplines.
Coaching supports a person in their desire to change in the way they want to change and go in the direction they want to go. It’s ultimately more about becoming, than doing. It supports a person at every level towards being who they want to be and in obtaining what they want to obtain, for their life and/or career.
Coaching grows awareness, empowers personal choice, and encourages action that all leads to the change that is desired. It incites a person with limited resources to become more resourceful. It works to ignite a person’s fullest potential, and therefore, greatly increases their achievement. Coaching helps a person learn, rather than just instructing them. It inspires a sense of ownership and self-confidence because the person develops a deep-seated understanding that they were responsible for achieving what they have achieved.
